Privacy Policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
ScriptureShelf is a free Bible reading tracker made by Jesse Huss. This page explains, in plain language, what information the app keeps, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we keep only what’s needed to run your reading tracker, there are no ads, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
When you sign in with Google, Google shares your basic profile with us: your name, email address, and profile picture (as a link to the image Google hosts), along with Google’s account identifier so we can recognise you next time. We ask Google only for the standard “openid email profile” permissions. We never see your Google password, and we can’t access your Gmail, Drive, contacts or anything else in your Google account.
Your reading data: the chapters you mark as read (and when), a history of your mark and unmark actions, any goals you set, and your settings — display name, theme and time zone.
Sign-in sessions: when you sign in, your browser gets a secure session cookie containing a random token. We store only a hashed version of that token (never the token itself), along with when the session expires (after 30 days) and your browser’s user-agent string, so you stay signed in. This cookie is essential for the app to work; it isn’t used for tracking or advertising.
On your device: the app remembers your theme choice in your browser’s local storage so the page doesn’t flash the wrong colours while loading.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To show your bookshelf, dashboard, statistics, streaks, history and goals.
- To show your name and picture inside the app.
That’s all. We don’t use your information for advertising, we don’t build profiles about you, and we don’t send marketing email.
Where it’s stored
ScriptureShelf runs on Cloudflare. Your account and reading progress are stored in Cloudflare D1, a database service operated by Cloudflare. Like any website, Cloudflare processes standard request information (such as your IP address) to deliver and protect the service. Your data is kept only as long as you have an account.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics on scriptureshelf.com and app.scriptureshelf.com to see basic, aggregate numbers such as page views. It is cookieless — it doesn’t set cookies or track you across other websites. This is the only analytics we use.
Who we share it with
No one, and we never sell it. There are no ads and no data brokers. The only companies involved are the ones needed to run the app: Google (to sign you in) and Cloudflare (to host the app and store your data). We would only disclose information if required by law.
ScriptureShelf’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices: export and delete
- Export: in the app, go to Settings to download your data as JSON, or your chapters and history as CSV files.
- Delete: in Settings you can permanently delete your account. This removes your profile, reading progress, history, goals, settings and sessions from our database. Copies may remain in Cloudflare’s short-term database backups for a limited time before they’re overwritten.
- Disconnect Google: you can also remove ScriptureShelf’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions.
Children
ScriptureShelf isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above. For significant changes, we’ll let you know in the app.
